The Charlie Dutton Gallery is pleased to present Derek Curtis’ first solo show in the U.K.
Curtis is an artist who explores the way nature and the natural world is represented in todays society. The ideas for his paintings and sculptures evolve from the use of everyday materials in conjunction with cultural, political and historical art references. This is emphasised through a playfulness that approaches the seriousness of the subject matter with a gentle humour that underpins his work.
In the exhibition “The Hunt “ at the Charlie Dutton Gallery, Curtis produces a series of new work, which plays and responds to the traditional sport of hunting. The interpretations and observations the artist makes of the protagonists in these events unfold like picture stories, with the characters and their surroundings forming contemporary narratives rendered in glorious Technicolor.
