This month at BACA Art Centre/ Nook Gallery we present We Are (not) Amused, an exhibition showcasing the work of 15 Contemporary British Artists, all showing works on paper.
Exhibitors include Howard Dyke, Selma Parlour and Alison Gill, all of whom have been collected by Saatchi Gallery, as well as artists such as Phillip Allen, represented by The Approach Gallery in London.
Some of these works on paper are finished pieces in their own right, others are sketches or preparatory drawings for later work. Artists shown here use a variety of media, ranging from paint and ink to pencil or felt tips, and equally their art ranges across a variety of issues: some, like Beijing based artists Martin Derbyshire or Mark O’Rourke, utilising abstraction and semiotics; others, like Harry Pye, taking a more playful approach, and collaborating with his young nephew.
The exhibition runs from 1st April until 19th April, with a private view on April 4th, 5 – 7pm.
