AETHER

17th -26th November 2011

THE AETHER presents new works by Japanese artists and designers, and in doing so aims to emphasise their ability in their chosen field and the importance of the relationship between art and design, technological innovation and traditional craftsmanship. These elements are neither a union nor a whole. However, we believe that between those elements there are precious gaps to express challenging thoughts and unlimited brightness interactively through our works. Moreover, we from Japan were harmed by a huge calamity (11th March, 2011), an event that importantly led us to rethink our use of natural resources and to develop the idea of adapting to limited natural resources. This exhibit centres around how new ways of creativity can work together and continue to challenge our understanding of twenty-first century art and design.

We see this exhibit as providing a huge opportunity in renewing interest in the interaction between art and design in the abilities of emerging artists and designers and to reconsider how important natural resources are. Nestled in between, moments of uniqueness and extraordinariness can be seen in this exhibit to stimulate the viewer’s curiosity and imagination. Strength in synergy, and a unity of individuality.
