Charlie Dutton
Charlie Dutton has been in the art world for as long as he, or anyone else, can remember. He completed his undergrad and postgrad Fine Arts degrees at Central St. Martins, part of University of the Arts London. He is still a practicing artist, but his journey has also given him the privilege of being able to work as a lecturer in fine art and lens based media in a variety of settings and continents. He’s also been lucky enough to build curatorial and consulting expertise by regularly showing the work of others, through his own galleries, and the trusted networks he has built. He has a fundamental commitment to the value and advancement of the arts.
In the early ’10’s he co-founded the Charlie Dutton Gallery, which was an integral part of the art scene in London, and managed acquisitions for significant collectors, as well as institutional spaces such as The Tate & Saatchi Gallery. He has gone on to establish and run the BACA Art Center and gallery in Beijing.
His expertise and vision have played a pivotal role in the shaping of the gallery, and in a broader sense, that has fed into the exciting development of the art scene in Beijing. He is developing ever closer links across Asia, and plans are afoot to create a new space in Sydney, Australia.
Charlie possesses a keen eye for emerging artistic talent, a deep understanding of the global art market, a profound love of art, as well as a fundamental understanding of what it means and what it takes to be an artist. This combination of skills is what makes him such a valued curator and consultant, no matter what continent you find him in.
